OK, so I got my first API the other day....in a lunchbox. Pretty empty lunchbox right now...just one 512c in it, but boy, I was impressed. This thing sounds really good, even with my lowly AT4047....

Thanks...someone just said the exact same thing to me yesterday! I just ordered one...
Thanks

Say you're going into Pro Tools, and you have to have a pre that sounds pretty darn great on vocals, and guitars. Don't have to worry about brass, drums, etc. Vocal and guitars only (acoustic,...
OK, I have a lowly mic collection, a whole two mics for my home studio.
I record vocals, acoustic and electric guitar, and once in awhile a sax player might come over....not often.
I have an...
No one has really ever been limited by "tracks available"....including Les Paul himself.
People have been dealing with oodles of tracks forever, comping them down into pairs, etc. "Sgt Pepper"...
Because there are differences in sounds between mic pres, or mics, or cables for that matter, doesn't mean that one has to own one of everything to make good recordings.
Again, mosts...
The "stacking tracks" thing is just one of the silliest things that now concern the uninformed buyer, probably because some dealer somewhere got the whole thing started to sell multiple mic pres.
...
It does, I meant that's probably why I like it's sound ;)
Finally got one of these guys, and man, what an impressive microphone at this price point. I've used it on electric guitar and nylon string....both ends of the spectrum, and it sounds great. Will...
Well, I don't think the UA "crap" is bad at all, the 610 with a U99 on a female I recorded was heavenly. As you are fond of saying....YMMV, and apparently does...

Between those 3 I would take the Hardy in a heartbeat. Hey, that's got rhythm....Hardy in a Heartbeat. Big and clean.
The Buzz is OK but if you get a Buzz, get an MA2.2, and the 1272...I'm...
It's funny...I keep hearing people talk about the Great River as having "Thickness" or "Warmth" or "heft" whatever...I really don't find it to be a huge or thick sounding pre at all. In fact on some...
I just posted my Great River ME 1NV single channel pre, which is four weeks old, up on ebay should anyone be looking for one....it's here:

If you have any mp3s of female vocalists on this mic, would you be willing to send a snippet up here for us? Or email those interested?
I'd be interested..
Thanks
Tom
Currently on ebay in a 3 day sale, these are mint, only been in my project studio, and I'm selling them at a LOW price...if anyone is interested. Current BUY IT NOW is 1675.00
thanks

Well, just remember that for a few decades or so records were made in a studio with a console, and all the tracks went through that console. Seldom were there racks of different mic pres to "layer"...
Very positive. I've not a heard as much of an "in your face" sound before. It's huge.
Well, I hate to say it, but although the ME1NV of mine sounds nice, I really do think it is possibly the most overrated preamp I have ever used. I liked it at first, and even wrote Dan a nice email...
You will not pay 2800 for a U87ai unless you are insane ;)

Well, I think that's very true in popular music.
Listen, there is NO ONE up here who could listen to a typical pop recording...and by pop I mean anything like Country, Rock, "Pop" etc....and tell...
This is kind of in connection with my "best cheap mic" thread....how would this combination be?
Given this:
1 I tend NOT to like dark mics, such the M147.
2 My ideal mic is a Elux 251.
3...
Hey thanks guys, enjoy all the feedback. I guess a 200.00 mic sounding great on vocals was too much to ask. Weird though that you see some pretty good engineers saying they were amazed by it.
Keep...
Question says it all....looking for the best all around cheap condensor vocal mic, going into a MP1NV. Generally doing pop vocal work, very little screaming stuff. Lots of female vocals, and lots of...
With all due respect to Brad and others, I've personally seen and worked with more U87ai mics in VO booths than any other mic in the world....it seems to work for the most people and take EQ very...
Well.... ;)
U87s have been putting vocals over the music for a long time.....they take EQ great, and that "in your face" proximity effect sounds great with the right track. Very easy to roll off a...
