I had a chance to demo this piece, actually I've still got it. In a comparison to a UA2610->LA2A the LA610 had more of a midrange presence than the combination which seemed to be a bit fuller sounding both on top and bottom. The LA610 was no slouch though and sounded pretty great on a bass amp and acoustic guitar among others. At a fraction of the price of just an LA2A it's certainly worth investigating if you're in the market for a channel strip.

    Thx Jan,

I'm interested in this pre because I need some tube character before going to my AD.I will mainly record guitar and bass so I don't want to sound "clean"...I'm thinking that this piece will give me what I need. And for the price...

    cheers

It's certainly one of the more 'colored' sounding boxes out there. I really liked it on bass and electic guitar and less so on acoustic guitar.

The price is right! My advice is to always try before you buy.

    Good luck.

Well if you've got the budget for a Voxbox, it's quite a bit more flexible, but it's almost 3 times as much money.

I'm never reluctant to add thoughts when I can do so authoritatively. But I have no experience with this box other than seeing it at UA's booth at AES. Sorry.

Save your pennies. A Manley will soon be more affordable than ever.

It's a preamp only, but I've got high hopes for it after seeing it at AES.

At 20 bits, you are on the verge of dynamic range covering fly-farts-at-20-feet to untolerable pain. Really, what more could we need?
