    We are alive!
It was anxious hours before we knew family were.
A family member was on the 5th floor of the CCTV building that completely collapsed, and walked out.
A friend of mine is still in there, he may come out yet!

The studio is near the epicentre, with the fault 5 km below me which means violent vertical thrust.
Seemed ‘ten times’ worse than last years one. Yet just 10 km across town there is no issue.
The studio is single level concrete pillar and beams, I thought it was going to fall on me.
It’s amazing how steel reinforcing holds it all together
We were isolated by the flooding and destruction, with no communication we didn’t know what was going on
It was a long and traumatic journey to find our children

I can’t complain, we are safe.
Though we are displaced from our house.
A more daunting thought is I am out of business..

    Ian,

So good to know that you and your family are alive. All that other stuff can be replaced. We'll be praying for you in the weeks and months ahead.

    Hi Ian,

good hear that you're OK, I was a bit worried when the news was coming through. I only know a few people down in Christchurch, still waiting to hear about another couple who run a web design business. Amazing about your friend on the 5th floor of CCTV - wow!

    Take care,

    Tim

What a nightmare Ian, glad to hear you are OK. I hope your friend makes it, but from what I have heard on the news it's not looking good for anyone not already saved from the CTV building. I was saying to someone today, we have shakes here in Wellington on a regular basis, and in theory, Wellington is more prone to earthquakes (by history) than Chch. Everytime I feel a shake I wonder, will this be the big one?

I guess right now Ian every time you feel an after shock it must be quite scary? There was 2 min silence across New Zealand today at 12:50pm when the quake hit last Tuesday. I believe about 150 poeple are dead, expected toll will be around 200. This figure is low compared to similar events in other places in the world where buildings are not as safe, but it serves to remind us that the earth is a MUCH more powerful thing than us humans.

What is the state of your equipment? If I can help, let me know. Perhaps the community here could help repalce anything lost with a small donation, what do you think Lynn?

I think that would be a very nice gesture.

That's really funny in a tragic sort of way. Wow. That's quite a sight to come home to.
