Lost my mom last night. She was coming up on her 89th birthday. She passed around midnight last night. Taught me how to read novels when I was in kindergarden. Taught me how to play my first instrument (accordian) when I was 8. Loved me always, even at my worst. I was lucky to have her. Her passing was quick and merciful and I'm greatful for this.

So sorry, Doug. I suspect it's unimaginably hard. I will hold you up in my prayers. I'm glad you got to enjoy her until her 89th year.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the prayers. We've been expecting this for a while but there is still much to do. I'm sort of running on autopilot. She was ready and she is free now from the ailments that had beset her. Her faith was strong and her passing was mercifully swift. I thought I would be more ready for this than I am. The first time I saw Terms of Endearment, I was absolutely floored by the similarities i saw between her and Aurora Greenway. She did things in a big way. I'll be meeting with her Methodist pastor this afternoon to plan her memorial here and I'll be bringing her ashes back to Texas this spring to be interred with my dad at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery.

Just saw this, Doug, and wanted to lift you up at this time. We lost my mother in April last year, after six years of Alzheimer's hell. Bittersweet time... bitter to lose mom... sweet because she was finally fully herself and no longer hurting physically or emotionally.

Yesterday would have been her 89th birthday. When I saw it on the calendar the first thing I did was think that I had forgotten to get her a present. the next thought was how greatful I was that she had not lingered to see this birthday in the condition she was in. I miss her but I'm glad she is free.
