Default Fly on the Wall session #1 with Lynn Fuston was a success!

What a wonderful time. It was fast and furious. We started at 9 AM and were done cutting and rough mixing a song by 1: 30 PM. Following was a lunch and Q&A session with me, with the attendees asking anything they had questions about, whether it be from the session or otherwise.

It was fascinating and I had a great time. Working on 2" for the first time in a decade, on a console that I hadn't worked on in almost 30 years (except possibly one in Jamaica in 2006 but don't recall if that was an MCI 400 or 500-series) with a band I'd never recorded in a studio where I'd never worked before without all my tools. I did bring a couple of preamps and a few mics.

Thanks for Chris and Yoli Mara at Welcome to 1979 for making it happen and to Greg Thompson and Gina, the very capable assistants, for getting all the setup and teardown done well and in an efficient manner.

Here are some pictures from the day. Thanks to all the attendees and the band, Roots of a Rebellion.

With the diagonal knotty pine wall treatment, I'd say the studio is very appropriately named. Well, maybe more 1974 than 1979.

No video this time. This was the inaugural voyage. Didn't want video footage just in case I encountered any icebergs. ;-)

Unknown room, unknown console, unknown band, unknown speakers, lots and lots of variables.

Next time, we may do cameras. I'm working on it.
