6 months without electricity would clean a large portion of the gene pool.

We have severe storms in the forecast for our area tonight - Tuesday. What will happen? I'm not sure, but I took an hour to prepare this morning. I moved some things inside that could blow around, checked the generator and went and got gas for the gas cans, moved some firewood into the garage in case we need it for cooking, checked flashlights and batteries, tarps, ropes, tie downs, etc. No need to check guns and ammo, but those are ready along with food and water storage.

My neighbor? He was very concerned about getting some type of high-nitrogen fertilizer onto his grass so the rain can drive it into the soil and dissolve it quickly. Then he has a tennis game at 3 that could be rained out and that would be very upsetting. I doubt he has any kind of plan or backup plan, and no means to deal with a power failure beyond 30 minutes...

Maybe someone should make a law against tornadoes, large scale solar flares, and such? A government program would be beneficial about now...taxing the rich would pay for it, doncha think?

I think the program is called Carbon Credits or Carbon Offsets, or something like that...

Unless it is mandatory, no one will engage in any of this...haven't we learned that from recent events?

You have to pass the disaster preparedness bill to know what's in it

One Eastern NC (ie. coastal) town tried to do just that (against hurricanes) several years ago. I can't remember the details, but it was supposedly a stunt to try and retrieve more relief money for hurricane victims and damage. It never passed, or never came to be, whatever the reason. I have to think it was because it was STUPID.

Why should he? He can just come next door and mooch off of you!

Lots of truth, there. The mindset of the typical American.

Amazing article about a close call that could've done SEVERE damage to the earth. "Analysts believe that a direct hit … could cause widespread power blackouts, disabling everything that plugs into a wall socket. Most people wouldn’t even be able to flush their toilet because urban water supplies largely rely on electric pumps."

Yes, I read that one. Pretty crazy, eh? So close to disaster and most of us were completely unaware.
Am I the only one without a small type signature?
