    Default Live in the Studio

I don't do many "worship" type projects. I recorded this last spring all live in the studio - all in one room. I thought it turned out pretty cool. It's all live - we definitely had to "mix it to the room" as we recorded, but most folks didn't even wear headphones while recording and it has a nice, natural feel to it. Hope you enjoy...

Sounds great. You captured a good vibe there. I like a live-off-the-floor recording.

How did you mic all that up? The video reveals a few things. I looks like you set up the mics to capture a fairly wide space with a lot of room leakage.
Am I the only one without a small type signature?

4 Neumann M-150's were up high to capture all the room air. 4047's and KM184's on the "audience / choir". Coles on the drum ovhs with an EV868 on the kick and 57 on the snare and 184's on the toms. An Re-20 on the bass amp. RCA 74b on the egtr, acoustics were mainly di with carefully selected pickups to avoid that sound I hate so much, piano had Sanken CU-41's on it, and vox were U87's. All cut thru API pre's and 550a or 560b eq. No compression to speak of except for La2a's on the vocals. That room sounds amazing and we had a little Lex 480 added in as well.

Yep. Very nice indeed. All worship, no bombast.

You ever need a dogsbody on a project like this, gimme a call. Made my day.

Love it and will be ordering shortly, much like my response to "Let Us In." You're attracting good folks and good work, and I imagine it has to feel great. Love the steel as pad: such a vocal sound that doesn't get enough due outside of its caricatured pop self.

Nice, Todd! Our new worship pastor was supposed to got the one they just had but he moved out here that week so he cancelled going. He had posted about the group and I heard the audio only of this. Great to see the video. Love the ambience--just feels open and not slammed down our throats/ears.

Here is another song from the same session. This girl can SING! All live, and just my basic board mix but it works pretty well…

I'm not crazy about her voice. She's very talented, BUT, she has that typical female signature everyone is trying to copy a lot today, especially in the christian music genres...just my opinion. OTOH, your capture of the performance is awesome. Great work.

It's maddening: As soon as I make it right - it suddenly works!
