Default How Many Years Ago Did I Predict This?

    Here we are...

Streaming music services such as Spotify have eclipsed CD sales and are closing in on digital downloads as the largest source of revenue in the music industry’s biggest market, according to new data from the Recording Industry Association of America.

And you thought it was hard to make money selling downloads at 99 cents a pop...

I don't know. How many years ago DID you predict this?

It's been a slippery slope indeed.

Good thing it's the year of the McFly. Can I go back to 1985 now, please?

Maybe it's just because I'm getting old, but I still much rather have a physical copy of something in the event that a device such as an mp3 player, iPhone, etc, fails. Not to mention potential differences in quality.

Really? I thought McDonald's had been open in China since the 90's!

Most people have as well…seems people are more interested in quantity and price vs quality…you already knew that.

Seems to me most folks under 25 have never owned a cd and certainly do not plan to ever purchase a cd again. A very, very large percentage of their music comes via streaming already, and even those with extensive libraries of mp3's (AAC's) they have purchased say they are tapering those purchases in lieu of Spotify, which seemed to be the large favorite with Pandora and Apple Radio tied for #2.

My 17-year-old son had never purchased a music CD -IN HIS LIFE-. Just had no interest. All the music he wants to hear is on Spotify and Pandora.

Until he found an artist in Japan that made music that he loved and couldn't find anywhere online. This artist refused to let any of his music be streamed or uploaded digitally. My son loved it so much that he ponied up $70 for a CD package of like 40 songs.

Yes, music still has appeal and still has value. But who's gonna buy it when you can get it for free?

You know it's getting bad when sales look so bad that people are getting excited about streaming royalties.

I must have accidentally done something right in regards to my 17 year old stepson. iTunes isn't as good as a CD, but at least he'll buy SOMETHING. He hates streaming services.

I'm discovering most people under 30 don't seem to have ever owned a stereo system of any kind, or if they did, certainly not one that had stand alone speakers.
