Ebay Alert - Manley SLAM! Scam

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3746809619&ssPageName= ADME:B:SS:US:1

Please do NOT bid on the item listed above. I believe the above auction to be fraudulent for the following reasons.

    -Seller has no transaction history
-Seller joined Ebay the day the auction started
-Seller wants Western Union payment only
-Seller is using MY picture to advertise the unit
-Seller has claimed in a email to a purchaser to be ME (Lynn Fuston)
    -Seller has hotmail address
    -Short (3-day) auction
-No reserve or starting bid listed on a $9000 piece of gear
-The serial number advertised does not exist

I contacted Ebay about having it pulled and EveAnna Manley did as well. Her notes to Ebay concerning the auction:

    Additional information about auction #3746809619:
The item serial number the seller claims to be selling does not exist.
The seller stole photographs off a legitimate customer's website and claimed
to be him in an email. (See attached correspondence between legitimate
person who is pictured in the email and the fraudulent seller.)
Photo is not of the actual unit.
Photo is not of the same model the seller claims to be selling.
The price for this item is unrealistically low (Item retails for $10,100.00
USD and seller only wants $1800 GBP for it.)
    Seller has hotmail account.
    Seller has (0) feedback.
Seller's street address does not exist.
Seller only accepts payment by Western Union.

Please REMOVE THIS LISTING and SUSPEND this seller's account as he is
    perpetuating outright FRAUD.

I have posted this message at Gearslutz, George Massenburg's REP forum and Craig Anderton's Musicplayer forum. Please post it at any other forums you frequent so hopefully we can save someone from losing a lot of money.

Ebay has been contacted but the auction is still active as of 11:17 AM CST.

9:41 PM CST and the auction is still active. I suspect, though, with 14 consecutive bids by Ms. "bogus_manley_dont_bid" that the seller may have figured out something has gone awry.

But my smiling face is still there nonetheless.

Just for fun, I sent this guy an email. Notice how he is in a hurry and wants to use moneygram, which has no protection.

I got him "down" on 1500euro..*GGGG* And I could pick it up in London.... BUT (and there´s always one BUT) I had to pay him 300euro first so he´d know I was seriously interested..*GGG* man what a jerk ;-)

    Kind regards

That's a great deal Peter! So you got him down to really $300 to give you nothing instead of having to spend $1900 to get nothing! Go for it!

    LOL EveAnna!

This is utterly disturbing this form of internet terrorism out there. As a community, it is great to see all the web boards on this one like "Ugly on an Ape".

I certainly hope the cops nab this indivigual.

I have to say that I am overwhelmed (not surprised) at the response and support of the internet community on this one. It has taken a lot of energy and time on both EA's and my part, but if we can save someone a 1900 Euro mistake and bust one scammer, then it'll be worth it.

I can't believe this guy is still dealing though. You'd think he would figure out that someone was on to him and cut and run. I guess I don't think enough like a criminal. Heck, even a disappearing $300 deposit is better than nothing. I wonder what other scams he has going on right now under how many aliases. Has anyone asked for a picture of the real unit in his studio? Or a picture of him with the unit would be nice.

Why not agree to do a bank transfer and that way he would have to provide the bank info, which is all traceable?

I guess this stuff is too rampant for even law enforcement to care anymore. If Ebay is too busy to even pull the plug in light of the overwhelming evidence, then where do you turn?

I guess to internet forums and the support of other recording professionals. That seems our only recourse. And guess what? It seems to be working. At least there are no new bidders, right? So our grass roots efforts seem to be effective.
