Am I hearing this Right? Part deux

    hi,
I've been burning test CD's of our band's project and taking them to my car to listen, I see it as the ultimate test (1996 Honda Accord stock speakers, and portable cd player plugged into the lighter )

I think I'm hearing the difference between media and burning speeds. When I did a complete all songs test the other night I used the coveted Taiyo Yuden media and burned at 2x speed.
This morning when I was dong some partial song low end tests, I just whipped them out on my generic TDK media at 4x speed.

I think I heard the 4x/TDK music was sort of blurry and a little bit harsh.
    Am I imagining this?

    Thanks

No - you are not imagining anything. I've experienced this many times. Especially in Masterlinks, they seem really picky on media...

    Stick with the Yudens...

I have no scientific way of proving this and many variables come into play here, but to me the 1x burns seem cleaner than the faster speeds.

    OK good thanks

My burner's slowest is 2x so thats what its gonna be for the replication plant..
I'm going to be replacing a few pieces of gear for our next CD and a nice burner and burning software is on top of the list

If you are not confident (maybe you are) in your CD burner, wouldn't you rather replace that now before you burn your master for THIS CD. I wouldn't cut corners. The Plextors come with software for checking errors.

    TOTALLY true!

I routinely cut stuff at 2x now on my burners... Big diff!!!

I'm using mam-a gold audio cds. There IS a diff when you play them back on consumer systems!!!

    Good luck,

    thanks-
I'm going up to the duplicator co.'s office in person with my disc to see if it passes for error and other stuff . Probably in the next couple weeks. If my disc fails I'll finally will get out and find a Plextor and CD architect or similar.
