Lynn, when you say "MOTU" on your list of candidates, did you have a particular MOTU product in mind? Their converter quality varies widely from box to box, as I'm sure you know.

Don't assume too much. I don't know anything about the MOTU boxes at all.

Do you have a suggestion about which one I should include? Do they make any standalone boxes so I won't have to havea computer?

The 1224, 1296 and 896 are supposed to have the better converters as opposed to the 2408, 828, and 24i. I only have direct experience of the 2408 MkII and the 1224, and the 1224's converters do sound noticeably better.

However, the 2408 can do standalone A/D and the 1224 can't. I think the 2408 may still be the only MOTU box that does this.

I like the 1224 a lot, but then I've never used Myteks or Lucids; I'm comparing it to ADAT and Flying Cow converters and such. It's definitely in a different class than those.

I just got an acoustic guitar and vocal project in here that sounds stunning, better than many major label releases. It could be mastered flat if it weren't for some noise and balance problems.

It was recorded entirely with a MOTU system using the converters in a WAVES L-2 which is a Manley design. It would be good to see either or both of these manufacturers represented.

Have you considered Genex and Euphonix for the high-end?

Genex, yes. I hadn't thought of Euphonix.

I haven't heard back from Genex yet though. Do you know anyone over there?

And the Waves L2 is a great idea. Thanks Bob.

Hi, I am new to the board... I have an Apogee Rosetta, Pulsar, Scope, Sek'd 2496S, LynxOne, LynxTwo, and a Digital Audio Denmark in the converter department. I would make sure the DAD and the LynxTwo make it into the mix... They are both amazing.

Are you focusing more on A/D or D/A ?

    First, welcome to the board.

Only A-D converters will be auditioned.

I just heard back from Frontier Design Group. They have decided not to be involved. Quoting here:

Thank you for offering to include our converters in your ADC shootout. It
sounds like you already have a good selection of manufacturers. We have
decided to pass up the opportunity at this time. But please do keep us on
your mailing list, and feel free to contact me again in the future.

So if there is going to be a Tango or other in the lineup, someone will need to volunteer theirs.

Sounds like Tango is afraid to put their product on the line...
