    Cool!

So who's running Ardour? And are you using it for actual projects?

I noticed the different OS's, and hadn't considered that anyone might think they could possibly be a factor.

Was there some discussion regarding the OS affecting the summing result?? If so, that sounds like an extremely bizarre argument to me.

It may be possible that the version of PT in question can affect a sum result, but the OS?!

Out of curiosity, why are the different OS versions listed?

You think that's getting into voodoo? What about the thread regarding the ability of the Intel chip to do special dithering.

That means that PC people have to compare AMD and Intel.

    Go figure.

Believe it or not, I've heard speculation that PT sounded better under OS9 than it does under OSX. I didn't say that though. There are also people that put "beaks" or polished stones on top of their speakers to drain off negative energy.

I'm not saying it's hogwash. I haven't heard it for myself. I will have a native version PT mix (PT6/OSX) here within the day to compare a 5.1Mix+ on OS9 to it and see if there is any difference. I'll let you know. I did compare the HD mix of the DAW-SUM files with my Mix+ version and the unity gain versions are bit-identical, so that puts one speculation to rest.

When it comes to native systems, all bets are off. I don't know yet whether all software performs the same independent of hardware and OS considerations. I'm not sure the software mfrs. can reliably tell you that. Hopefully these test files can help us get closer to an answer. One software company has already approached me about getting the test files for their own in-house testing. Maybe this will help all of us explain some things we've never been able to pin down before.

I also have Logic files done under OS9 and OSX so we can compare those as well. I have not done that yet.

    Here's another tidbit/discovery.

The same mix at unity gain, done with the DAW-SUM 24/48 soundfiles, done in

    A) PT LE
    B) PT Mix+ 5.1.1 (OS9)
    C) PT-HD (OS9)

have all three produced bit-identical results. That answers at least one of my questions.

Stay tuned. There are more revelations to come.

Three platforms have been dropped from the list since I was unable to get mix files from them in time. Ardour, Deck and SADiE.

But several others have been added. A good trade off. I think you will agree.

The final list will be posted next week.

Pity about SADiE. I might run the files through V4 myself just out of interest.

If you could run them and get them to me really fast, I might still be able to include them. It would have to happen in the next 24 hours. And you'd have to ftp them back.
