Lynx Auroa vrs. Mytek

Well Atlas Pro Audio said that the Mytek's are better sounding and he sells them both. CripticGlobe from the Nuendo group said he found the Aurora to be right up there with them and he preferred them 77% of the time. This gives me the impression that they are both good and your own personal tates will dicate which one you like better. It seems that for 8 channels of Mytek for the same price as 16 Auroa that the Mytek would be better. Not to mention Mytek's where just improved with better chips when they went to 192.

Anyone have any additional insight on this topic?

I had the Auroras in my place last week, and while they sounded very nice(much better than Apogees newest offering, IMHO), I didnt find them as clean as the Mytek.

I was told having a Big Ben makes enough of a difference with the Auroras to get a better sound. Not sure how much of an improvement though

If you do prefer the Mytek sound, here are some thoughts.....

If you need sixteen channels but can't afford the Mytek, maybe consider getting the Lynx and a Mytek clock (or maybe a stereo Mytek A/D)(Or maybe 8 channels of Lynx and two channels of Mytek).

I don't like the BB on the Lynx. I don't mind clocking the Lynx to the Weiss A/D when tracking, it doesn't seem to smear the sound. YMMV.

Also, keep in mind that the Lynx have their extra level of synchro-lock which you cannot disable except via their own software via one of their own cards.

It's a tough decision, but frankly I don't think you can go wrong either way.
