millenna stt-1 or focusrite isa 430 or focusrite red 7 ?

hello,

i have a manley gold mic.
and i would like to know whats the best pre amp for that mic.

i wanna a transparente, clear, open and super big soud.

i have the 3D Pre CD Volume 1 , Preamps in Paradise-Preamp Summit DVD-ROM , 3D Mic CD and ADCD Converter CD .

i kown there are GORDON, BUZZ AUDIO, GML... but in CD i prefer the millennia or the focusrite.

but i dont know what to buy.... is RED 7 better than 430 ?

is millennia more open and big than focusrite ?

but why not sell the manley gold if it is such a headache to match with a preamp?

I never tried Focusrite, but as far as Millennia is concerned, I would very much recommed you to compare it directly to any of the mentioned preamps and then only decide. If sound is your primary concern, don´t be carried away by ads ...

Having owned an ISA 430, I can't recommend it. I think the STT-1 is a better purchase in every way.

The STT-1 one makes a lot of good sounds. The M2b tube preamp is big sounding for sure, I'm actually very fond of it. The HV-3 in the STT-1 is somehow lacking against other HV-3 standalone units. I'm not sure why.

I think the EQ and the compressor in the STT-1 are simply great. It's a fine box for tracking vocals and in particular Bass, in my opinion.

You're doing a lot of searching for opinions, but it's kind of like asking what's a better car, or - who's a better wife...

If you can't get the equipment in your hands to test, it might be worth booking a couple of hrs in a studio that has the gear you want to hear, and go try it out yourself.

Other than that, narrow down the pre's you want to demo, and try out a few of them in your own place - most places worth their salt will do rentals, or 'try-before-you-buy" - many places here in the US/Canada do this, but not in your country?

Just a thought.

FWIW I used to own a pair of Red 7s. To be honest, I found them underwhelming. Once I picked up a rack of APIs I hardly ever used them. I did have a Focusrite ISA 220 in for a few weeks, and although I did like it better than the Red 7s I did not keep it. These days, with a more modest gear list, I'm very happy with the LA-610. I'm in love with the richness of the tone.
