We believe earning's visibility could be an issue for a number of months
Ahhh, all my life I thought I was poor but it turns out all I have is an earning's visibility issue. Sweet!

    Thanks for finding this.

    Quote from that article:

The company's audio division represented 33% of Avid's revenue in the second quarter.

Regardless of the degree Apple's format change is causing a decline in Pro Tools sales, I can't help but smile and think....Nuendo.

I think Avid's real issue is what Steve Jobs referred to in his keynote address at Mac World several years ago. At that point, he said that Avid had left a hole in the video production market wide enough to drive a truck through, and that's just what he did...

The reason: a sales dip of its Pro Tools HD editing software.
Hmmm... I didn't realize they sold HD software. I thought the software was free?

It's not, only incremental updates are free...

The article is quite general, I think we can safely assume the sales dip is in both hardware and software though. Good eye Lawrence.

    So, for instance...

If I bought a PTHD3 system without the software (assuming I was going to use the hardware with Logic software instead of PT) how much cheaper would that be for me the buyer? Can you seperate the 2 at purchase time?

If I go out and just buy the hardware pieces independantly (as if I already have the software or are using another front end) how much would I save? Would digi (their distribs) sell me a PTHD3 core system without the software for say, $1000 less?

    Lawrence (my friend...how ya been?)

Call David Klausner (a frequent 3d contributor) at Sweetwater for that information...if anyone knows, he does....

And when you buy your HD3 system, see if you can get a two-for one sale...I'll use the software if you don't want it.
